Love Thy Beer

Cheers to beers foodies!  I had the pleasure of attending the Love Thy Beer event hosted by the Brewers Association of Maryland Valentine’s Day weekend in Silver Spring, Maryland.  And who better to share this experience with other than my beau to jump start our weekend. We aren’t beer aficionados, but opening our palates is surely a treat.

Beer is one of the oldest and most consumed alcoholic beverages in the world.  Twenty + breweries in the room – this is a beer lover’s playground.  I prefer vodka over beer and when in the mood for beer I drink Corona’s.  Getting out of my comfort zone, here are a few of my favorites of the night.  With love in the air, each brewery had to be challenged with their take on a “Cupid Curse” beer and the winner will be announced at the end of the night.  Cupid’s Truffle by Antietam Brewery had a chocolate and raspberry stout beer and to my surprise very good!  Not a fan of raspberry flavors, however this flavor profile was subtle and not too fruity with an amazing chocolaty note at the end.

Next up is de Garde de Faith from Jailbreak Brewing Company.  This light sweet malt with its crisp finish and bursting citrus profile is great to pair with any meal if you ask me.

Drum roll please . . .

My absolute favorite of the night comes from the Flying Dog Brewery. Black Currant Gose is a red wheat ale and AMAZING! I loved it so much I asked if they could sell it to me!!  It was fruity, spritzy and light.  I can just imagine myself drinking this at brunch with my gal pals toasting to the good life.  It was just that good.  I love it and I hope that it will be sold in stores soon.  If I had all the beads to fill their jar so they can win for their version of “Cupid’s Curse,” it would have been awarded to them immediately.

While I did come for the beer; it wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t tell you about the food.  Modern Market was one of the sponsors and I was excited to see them there!  An assortment of sandwiches and sweet treats to soak up the beer and Essentia water to wash it down.  I especially loved the popcorn station!  So whimsical and fun.  I made an assortment to eat while sipping and to take home.  It was fresh cheddar, butter & caramel!  Didn’t want it to go to waste so I put it to good use!

I hope my foodies and beer lovers want to try something new from your local Maryland breweries.  I did my best in convincing them to bottle these tasty beers above, but to no avail it was a onetime deal.  A fine beer may be judged with one sip, but it’s better to be thoroughly sure . . . cheers!
